What is JapanesePod 101

JapanesePod101 is a Japanese language platform where users can learn Japanese via podcasts, videos, and other resources on the website. As you can tell by the name, the primary resource available on the site is the hundreds of podcast episodes. JapanesePod101 has actually been around for a long time, since around 2005- a year after I began learning Japanese. The first time I ever used JapanesePod101, there was only a handful of podcasts available on iTunes. The site has come a long way!

 

 

 

Types of Subscriptions (and their features)

There are 3 types of memberships available on JapanesePod101. For free, you can get limited access to the site and I believe you can get put on their daily email list- which is VERY annoying.

• Basic – $4 Per Month
• Premium – $10 Per Month
• Premium PLUS – $23 Per Month

There’s also a mobile subscription option for individuals who will only be using JapanesePod101 on their mobile device(s). It’s about $4 or $5 more than the monthly basic subscription cost.

The biggest difference between the services is that the basic service only gives you access to the podcast lessons, premium gives you full access to all features (flashcards, videos, etc…), and premium plus gives you access to a 1-on-1 tutor. I never used premium plus, but from what I read online, it’s not what it’s cracked up to be.

Who Can Benefit from This Website

Honestly, even if you only get the basic service, anyone can benefit from this website, regardless of your current language level. I think JapanesePod101 is an amazing website, but it’s easy to get overwhelmed with how much awesome stuff they’ve got over there. Don’t worry though, I’ve got some tutorials coming soon on how you can get the most of a JapanesePod101 subscription! Also, JapanesePod101 has an IG page, a YouTube channel, and probably more, where you can access free content!

Pros of Membership

1. Tons of resources in one place; audio lessons, flashcards, lesson notes, and more!
2. Easy to use on your PC or mobile device
3. Different kinds of lessons available include JLPT prep, videos, and vocabulary builders (my favorite)

Cons of Membership

1. Your email gets SPAMMED with “offers” once they’ve got it
2. There is so much content, yet there’s a lack of guidance on how to use it all
